Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Richard A. Bennett US Marine Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Thank you so much for making the ultimate sacrifice. It makes me so sad that you never had a real life and time to find out what family of a husband and wife was truly like. God Bless your family and may your shining light always burn brightly in the halls of fallen heroes.

i came across this today, reading articles of other marines we have lost this past year at hmla 169. i too served with rich and i have to tell you still to this day i tell his story to everyone one my marines. i tell them about living for something bigger than you, and what brother hood is about, and rich is in that story every time i tell it. i insist that people know his name and his legacy. he was a great man and a great marine.
i spoke to rich just before i went to chow that day. he was telling me how he had logged more hours flying in cobras than hueys. laughing about it, just saying how much he would rather be flying in hueys outside of the wire. we laughed, we said ill see you later and after chow silence had fallen on the entire flightline. it took weeks to realize that i wouldnt be seeing him on the flightline, or i wouldnt bump into him at the cans after the gym. it was the kind of loss that shattered your soul. to see how fragile life is and how quickly god can call us home. i will never forget our last conversation. the smile on his face, the tone in his voice, richard loved everything he did serving our beloved corps and to me that is the true greatest good the world will ever know.

"greater love no man has than this, to lay down his life for a friend." we will continue to stand the post rich, you rest easy until we meet again on the other side.

I've never seen parents who love their children as much as your's do. You are so loved and missed, and there is not a day that goes by that you are not thought about. Everytime I look into my rearview mirror, I see that sticker. Your duty is not compete, you continue to inspire those who serve, such as myself, and those who will one day follow your path. You will forever be missed.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Richard, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Cpl. Richard 'Ricky' Bennett is my cousin. He is missed dearly, but never forgotten. It's been a little over 7 months and not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Ricky was more of a brother to me than a cousin. To aunt Marilyn and uncle Larry you have done a fine job raising your son. He couldn't have been more prouder of being a Marine. He loved what he was doing and it brought many good thing's to his life. Rest in peace and I know I'll see you again someday.

Missing the good times but will never forget

Listening to music that reminds me of you

Remembering the time when we first met

Playing cards and drinking is how we do

Sittin at the bar and making a toast to you

Some how if we stick together we'll get through

Crazy dude livin life to the fullest extent

Yeah I will always remember the way you were

The love you gave to all your friends

I hope you will always be there, always for her

Missing you when there's a memory

Tears flow when no one can see

I know you have found a better place

The wings pinned to your chest go on forever

Still can't help but miss your face

The good times I will always remember

My heart goes out to the family of CPL Bennett. I saw his picture in marine times and my heart just stopped. I knew that I knew this marine from somewhere but couldnt put a finger on it, then it hit me. I was in Richards platoon in bootcamp in San Diego. "Ricky" was my cousin. We were a very close family growing up. THe person I remember was a goofy kid with a never ending smile. But, seeing him in his uniform was quite a site, so proud. Seeing the man he grew into was amazing. He was strongwilled and confident in what he was doing for our country, for us. He will be missed dearly. To Larry and Marilyn ~ You both should be very proud of the son you raised, you both taught him how to be so proud and confident but to enjoy every minute of life.

To the Family of Cpl. Richard A. Bennett;

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

I am Rick's cousin. He was a great kid. He loved what he was doing and was so proud to be a Marine. He loved flying and motorcycles. Rick was always so positive and went after what he wanted. He is going to be missed dearly. He had been in Iraq just two months.

We want you to know that we care so very much about your loss. We did not have the privilege of knowing Richard personally, but know that loss knows no boundaries. He put himself in harms way for what he believed in, and paid the ultimate price. Your loss cannot be less or more for the circumstances of his death, and your great journey of grief is the work of a lifetime.. Our son and brother Benjamin Schuster died in Ramadi Iraq on February 25, 2006, and we feel the loss every moment of every day. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, for now and for the future. Many more people care than you know. You are not alone at any moment of this journey.
