Richard C. Allenberg

1953 - 2025

Richard Chris Allenberg, 71, of West Tarentum, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on Dec. 11, 1953, in Natrona Heights. Richard was the loving husband of 51 years to Susan Marie Allenberg (Hromiko). He was the beloved father of Chelsea Allenberg, the late Hannah O'Leary, and Gretchen (Gary) Neal, and adored grandfather of seven, Jillianne, Lillie, Izaak, Ryland, Dillon, Benjamin, and Mason. Rick was a true jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything put in front of him, often using nothing more than what he already had lying around. He once used a pencil to get a broken car engine running long enough to drive home without needing a tow. Rick was a real MacGyver. He loved saving money and so was very frugal and very resourceful, often able to find a solution to any problem. A real go-to guy, he was always ready to help his family and friends. Rick was a hard worker his entire life with a work ethic that stood out. He worked for many years as an auto body mechanic and owned his own shop. As a young man, he once owned a 1964 blue two-door Chevy Impala Super Sport, which remained his favorite car. Rick later spent 28 years as a crane operator, dredging sand and gravel from the Allegheny River before retiring from the Operating Engineers Local 66 union out of Pittsburgh. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing his well-known summer tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers, which he always shared. Rick will be deeply missed and remembered every day with love. He is survived by his devoted siblings, Nancy Swiklinski, Antoinette (Edward) Holben, Joann (Kenneth) Horcicak, Donald (late Mary) Allenberg, Jeffrey (Lucinda) Allenberg, and Jack (late Tami) Allenberg; as well as by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Allenberg Sr. and Mary Allenberg (Bieranowski); and by his siblings, Dorothy (late Edward) Gavalek, Ruth Ann Chelbina, William (late Rachel) Allenberg, and Lori Sadowski.
