LIMA -- Richard M. Appleton, age 76, transferred locations from this earth to Heaven, at 10:10 a.m. on Christmas Morning, with his family and special friend, Julie by his side.
Richard was born July 13, 1946 in Owasso, MI, to the late Virgil and Mildred (Morell) Appleton Sr. On June 15, 1968 he married the love of his life, Catherine "Cathy" (Burden) Appleton.
Richard was a graduate of Flint Central High School, Flint, MI and Northwestern Business College in Lima. Richard had worked for the Ada Water and Sewer Department, managed the Ada swimming pool for many years and served as a volunteer EMT on the Ada Rescue Squad. He had also worked as Business Manager and Bookkeeper for the Stress Reduction Clinic and retired from Apollo Career Center. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and loved attending their school and sporting events. Richard was an avid fan of the Michigan Wolverines.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine "Cathy" Appleton of Lima; two children, Melissa (Andy) Wheeler of Morral, Mark (Stacy) Appleton of Newark; three grandchildren, Kathleen (Andrew) Coleman, Kyle (Maggie) Carmichael and Max (Kaitlyn) Appleton; sister, Diane Wager; sister-in-law, Juanita Appleton and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Appleton, Jr.; sister, Faith (Harry) Voila and brother-in-law, Wilton Wager.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Chiles - Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Pastor Ryan Benroth will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2023, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
