Richard Edward Barrett, 81, of Connersville, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
He was born August 19, 1941 in Connersville to James Barrett and Martha Barbour Johnson. He graduated from Connersville High School with the class of 1959.
On September 21, 1963, he was married to the former Dana Rusher in Connersville.
Richard worked as a meat cutter for many years at Standard Grocery and Marsh. He was a member of the Eagle Riders, Moose Lodge, and the Eagles Lodge.
A member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Richard often helped serve chicken at the fair.
An outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. He enjoyed watching canoers and kayakers on the river. A NASCAR fan, he had been to Bristol on many occasions over the years.
Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Outgoing, Richard was a people person who never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Dana Barrett, survivors include two children, Richie (Traci) Barrett of New Castle, Indiana and Rett Barrett (Amy McArthur-Barrett) of Michigan; eight grandchildren, Brittney, Alex, Parker, and Jacob Barrett, Seth (Teresa) Himes, Allison (Christopher) Weeks, Evelyn and Abby McArthur; five great grandchildren, Gerrit Himes, Macie Allen, Kylie Rolfes, Aubrie Weeks, and Harper Barrett; two brothers, Bill Barrett and Monte Kim Barrett; and a step-brother, Mike (Karen) Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Barrett and Martha Johnson; and a brother, Jim "Sonny" Barrett.
Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dustin Boehm officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Richard to the Fayette County Cancer Society.
