Richard A Barrett

At the age of 70, Richard A. Barrett, returned to his Lord on Feb. 11, after a courageous fight with bone marrow cancer. He was a devout Christian, loving the Lord everyday which helped him through the hard times of his illness. He was born Dec. 10, 1946 to John and Berniece Barrett. He was raised in Dixon, graduated Dixon High School class of 1966 where he excelled in track. After high school he joined the Army, including two stints in Vietnam. After his military service, he attended Solano Community College earning a horticulture degree. In 1975 he started working for the grounds department at UC Davis until his retirement in 2009. UC Davis will be planting a tree on campus in his honor. He was a hard worker and a good friend to all. In 1996, he married the love of his life, Charline, and spent their married life in Orangevale, CA. He and his wife were best known as "Just Clowning Around" clowns, Sparkles and Sheriff Rich, entertaining children at various events over the years. He is survived by his daughters, Jill Barrett and Doreen (Donald) Goselin; step-children, Tim (Ellen) Gunsolus, Christine Diller; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Millie Berniece Barrett Miller; brother, Warren (Sandy) Barrett and sister, Mary (Alex) Yandel. A viewing will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel, 6920 Destiny Drive in Rocklin. Burial will be at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road in Dixon on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 11:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Living Way Community Church at 510 Whyte Ave. in Roseville, CA on Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Richard's name to the Living Way Community Church at 510 Whyte Ave., Roseville, CA 95661.
