So sorry to hear of my buddy Bas´s passing. I enjoyed our years at Tippecanoe and his love of kids and camping. Wish I could be there to say goodbye. He was a great guy. I know your family is hurting. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oh my.... My heart goes out to the family. I've know Bas for many years through camping - what a good man! There are so many young people he has had a positive effect over his lifetime. I was looking forward to a strong working relationship with him at the MWCD. Always there to help, never shy to tell you what he thought and always an asset wherever he was. I am thankful for knowing him.

Bas shared with me the enjoyment of flying stunt kites. He was patient and encouraging in showing me the art of flying. I will never forget our first stunt kite competition in Grand Haven, MI. Playing Mancala and camping on the beach.
Now every time I fly I´ll look past my kite and know pass is with our Lord.

Bas came to work for me at age 20. Our last phone conversation of an hour was 38 years later the day before he passed. In between there were 38 years of laughter and sharing the joys and sadness of everyday life and work. Camping, canoeing, bird watching, counseling others, and working with children. I have tried to think of an occasion when Bas was cruel or mean to others and cannot. All my memories are good ones. He always saw the humor in everyday experiences. I am 80 and can say in my long life I have not met anyone whom I enjoyed their company more. RIP my friend.

I met Bas when he was Camp Director at Camp Tippecanoe. He was so welcoming of my girls, who are second generation campers, and were coming to camp from Maryland. H recognized us every year, and it was always a joy to see his smile when we arrived. My condolences to his loved ones on your loss.
