Richard A. Beissel Sr.

1927 - 2020

Richard A. Beissel, Sr. Richard A. Beissel, Sr. 93, was born March 2, 1927 and was the son of the late Leroy W. and Stella R. Beissel. He passed away December 10, 2020 in Tower Health / Reading Hospital. Dick was married April 8, 1961 to Adele Amelia (Kulasinski) Beissel, who died January 23, 2017. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together. He was also predeceased by his son, Richard A. Beissel, Jr., and a brother, LeRoy E. Beissel. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Deborah A. (Seisler) Beissel, a granddaughter, Kelly L. (Beissel), wife of Andrew S. Koch of Tucson, Arizona. Dick graduated from Ontelaunee High School, Leesport, PA in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, February 1945. At the completion of his tour in 1949, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He continued in Aviation as an Airframe and Engine Technician and as a Crew Chief. He was a graduate of the Non-Commissioned Officers School. Dick retired in February, 1987 as a Chief Master Sergeant with 42 years of continuous service. After his retirement, he started and chaired the 193rd Retirees Club. He was an avid golfer, with 7 Holes-In-One. He played at Military Bases in Hawaii, Italy, and Spain. Dick was a member of Rich Maiden Golf Course for over 18 years, where he was also named the Outstanding Golfer of 2014. Dick was a life member of the VFW; a member of Mohnton Rod & Gun Club, and Victor Emanuel Club. He had many treasured memories of hunting, fishing, and going to deer camp with his son, Rick. Dick enjoyed playing his Lowrey Organ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 15th at 9:30 am in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 322 South 5th Street, Reading, PA 19602. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 8:00 – 9:00 am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church at the above address.
