Richard Benson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2026.
HARLINGEN - Richard "R.C." Benson, 84, passed away on March 24, 2026, in Harlingen, Texas. Born on September 23, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, R.C. lived a full and vibrant life marked by devotion to family, deep faith, entrepreneurial spirit, and a lifelong love of golf and travel.

R.C. was the son of Charles and Donna Benson, who preceded him in death, along with his sisters Mary Anne Roedel and Janie Benson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, with whom he shared many decades of partnership and joy. He is also survived by his sons, Todd Benson and Tony Benson; his grandchildren, Brooke Hull (Tyler Hull) and Blake Benson; and his brother, Robert Benson (Sherry Benson) and their children Justin Benson and Jana Robertson.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business, R.C. went on to build a successful career in many business ventures as an entrepreneur. After many years of hard work and accomplishment, he retired, embracing a life rich with the pursuits he loved most.

R.C. was a man of faith and a member of Oh Be Joyful Church in Crested Butte, Colorado. His happiest days were often spent on the golf course-whether at Harlingen Country Club, The Club at Crested Butte, Loch Lomond Golf Club, or Nairn Golf Club. He also cherished his time traveling, especially throughout Colorado and Scotland, places that held special meaning for him.

R.C.'s family will remember him for his warmth, humor, generosity, and the steady presence he brought to life. His legacy lives on in the loved ones he leaves behind and in the many lives he touched along the way.
