Richard Eugene Bowen, May 4th, 1945-April 17th, 2025. Age 79, of Brooks MN died Thief River Falls MN.
Richard was born at home in Thomaston GA, May 4th, 1945, to Oren K. and Lottie Mae Bowen. The Family moved to Silver Spring MD where he started to attend school. His father was a carpenter, and his older brothers also worked with their father. He learned his life skills of working with his hands and his brain. In the seventh grade the family moved to Florida where he finished the rest of his education at Forrest Lake SDA Elementary School and attended Forrest Lake Academy, Maitland, FL. His junior year he met Rose Sutton, who became the love of his life, and they were married at the Apopka Seventh-day Adventist Church, Apopka, FL, July 4th, 1963. They lived in Florida when their first daughter was born. He worked doing various construction jobs and other entrepreneurial endeavors, moving to Tennessee, where their second daughter was born. Shortly after that they settled in Purvis Mississippi, making that their home base for many years as they moved around a lot, adding three more children.
Richard loved adventure and was always seeking new adventures, while visiting friends in northern Minnesota in 1975, he purchased a farm in Caribou MN, the family of 6 moved to Caribou in 1976. He proceeded to farm, travel and do various entrepreneurial pursuits throughout the years. In their retirement Richard and Rose decided to move to Orleans CA where they lived for 15 years. After Rose was diagnosed with cancer, they moved back to Brooks MN to be closer to family. Rose passed away in 2020 after 57 years of marriage.
Richard loved to meet new people and had a Blessing for you in his later years. He loved to study the bible and talking about God to whoever would pause to listen. Loved nature, animals and a soft heart for his "Puppy" who was his constant companion for 6 years, a lifelong passion for horses, chickens and growing a big garden. His brain was always active investing or scheming with a new idea of something to make life better or a new idea. Even with His dementia he never stopped with his creative thinking and problem solving.
Preceded in death by infant son Richard E. Bowen Jr., both parents, Oren K. and Lottie M. Bowen. Brothers Kenneth Lee (Zetra) of Purvis MS, Donavan (Joy) Bowen of Maitland FL, Sister Linda J. Ringer of La Porte IN.
Surviving family – Daughters Angela M. (Ted) Juhl, Drayton ND, Jean (John) Wilkinson, Genesee ID, Gena (David) Foster, Lincoln NE. Son Ted (Tiffany) Bowen, Brooks MN, Brother-in-Law, Melvin Ringer, Nieces, and Nephews. Eight Grand Children- Megan (Nathan) Tretter, Cari (Barry) Grussling, John M (Summer) Wilkinson, Stephen (Ashley) Wilkinson, Ella Foster, Ava Foster, Brittney (Krys) Missler, Gracie Bowen. Six great-grandchildren- Jack Tretter, Shawn Tretter, Henry Tretter, Scarlett Tretter, Kinsley Missler, Ember Wilkinson.
Services Held by Family-
MEMORIAL: Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in Thief River Falls Seventh-Day Adventist Church (on Tindolph Ave), Thief River Falls, MN.
VISITATION: to follow with a light lunch served.
INTERMENT: at a later date in Talowah Cemetery, Purvis, Mississippi.
