Richard Bowlin

Richard R. Bowlin, 91, passed away Friday, March 30, 2012 at The Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Butler, MO, Richard was the owner of Allen County Motors for 47 years, retiring in 1997. For over 40 years, he was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award, the highest award given by Ford Motor Company. In 1990, he was presented with the Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award for the state of Indiana. In 2000, he was inducted into the Greater Fort Wayne Business Hall of Fame. He devoted his time and talent to local charities. For example, Mizpah Shrine, 33rd Degree Mason, Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children, American Cancer Society, Toys for Tots, Junior Achievement, Community Harvest Food Bank, Parkview Hospital Foundation, United Way, and Erin's House. He was also a member of Fort Wayne Country Club. Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Cleta; son, Rex (Anita) Bowlin of Ft. Wayne; daughters, Debbie (Tom) Kimbrough, Diane Bowlin, and Dawn (John) Kleber all of Ft. Wayne; brothers, Stanley (Linda) Bowlin of Corpus Christi, TX and Jerry (Marvie) Bowlin of Kansas City, MO; granddaughters, Christine (Dan) Mounsey, Courtney Bowlin, Stefanie Kimbrough, Brittany Kleber, Kimberly Kleber, all of Ft. Wayne, and Jennifer Bowlin of Sacramento, CA; and grandson, Adam Kimbrough of Ft. Wayne. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Willa Mae and Rex Bowlin; brothers, Forest, Perry and Gilbert Bowlin; and sisters, Virginia Arnold and Dorothy Markous. He was a devoted husband and father and devoted to his friends and the community. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd. Visitation also from 9 to 10 am Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Towne House Retirement Community Chapel, 2209 St. Joe Center Road.
