Richard Boyle

Richard Woodbury Boyle, age 90, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away on December, 30, 2025, at Ashby Ponds. Richard was predeceased by his daughter Susan in 1990 and his wife of 62 years, Mary Keenan Boyle, in 2020. He is survived by his daughters Mary Ellen and Elizabeth; son Richard Jr. and his wife Genette; and eight grandchildren, Amanda, Carolyn, Rebecca and Michael Maher, Matthew and Rachel Boyle and James and Richard Mobley. Richard was a Graduate of the Engineering School at University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1957. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant and served in the Army Corps of Engineers attaining the rank of Captain. Following his Military Service he returned to U Mass Amherst where he taught Engineering Mechanics and earned a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. Following his return to Northern Virginia he worked at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC in the Mechanics Division. In 1962 he joined the Krafft-Murphy Company, a commercial interior contracting firm eventually becoming a full partner. Among their many projects were the Washington DC Air and Space Museum, the German Embassy; Landover, Lake Forest, Fair Oaks and Marley Station Malls, and numerous Office Parks and Buildings in the Downtown and Suburban Metropolitan Area. He also coached girls and boys soccer and basketball for many years with the Springfield Youth Club as his children were growing up. He and Mary enjoyed traveling the world to many interesting and unusual places eventually visiting all seven continents. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ella Boyle of Newton, MA, and by his brother John and sister-in-law Patricia Boyle of Hingham, MA.
Funeral service will be held January 20, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 46833 Leesburg Pike, Sterling, VA 20164.
