Richard Leroy Brien was born on October 20th, 1964 to Roberta and George Brien. Richard lived in Glasgow, MT in his early years of life before going on the LDS Placement Program in the state of Washington. When he returned he lived in Poplar for the remainder of his life.

As a young man Richard was always smiling and friendly to everyone he came in contact with. He was a “hands on” type of person and learned different skills in the construction field. Richard was the “handy man” who was always there to help whenever family or friends needed him.

Richard’s first job was being a firefighter for about 10 years and from then he worked on the pipeline constructing the waterline north of Poplar. After that he worked on building roads with a number of road construction companies working on and off the reservation. Richard also worked on the construction of the Fort Peck Reservation Rural Water Pipeline.

Richard was currently employed with the Fort Peck Tribes Community Services Department. This job gave him an opportunity to meet the day labor crews helping out Tribal members, which was something he truly enjoyed. Richard was willing to help those most in need and you could call on him anytime of the day or night, even on weekends, and he would come right over and help you out.

Richard is survived by his children, Leroy, Brittany, Brendan and Ronnie Lee, grandchildren, Nevaeh, Bailey, Ryker, Taim’Rrain, Hudson, soon to be Riley, and Kenerick who he took as his own and raised with Claudia Four Star.

He is also survived by his siblings Paula FireMoon, Anita Brien, Barbara Johnson, Robert Brien and Aunt Nancy Samuelson, brother-in-laws, Gene and Jerry and sister-in-law Marguerite.

Richard is preceded in death by grandparents, Napoleon and Delia Brien, Wilbur Renz and Lucille Gibbs, his parents Roberta Garfield and George Brien, siblings Harold Brien, Georgia Johnson, Roger Brien, Terry Walking Eagle, mother of his children Leroy and Brittany, and brothers-in-law Dawson FireMoon and Dorrance Steele.

Richard had a lot of friends and co-workers and his family wants you to know they’re grateful you were a part of Richard’s life that made him the person he was.
