Richard DeLancey Brier, Jr., 77, passed away from pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by loved ones.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rita Brier; son, Matthew (Heather); stepson, Rick Newlin (Beth); stepdaughter, Roni Montgomery (David); grandchildren, Kelsey, Dylan, and Colin; brother-in-law, Greg Baker (Sherry); sisters-in-law, Paula and Linda; nephew, Bill Brier Jr. (Michelle); and a niece, Cathy Darr.

Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Ramona Brier; father, Richard DeLancey Brier, Sr.; mother, Lucy Ellstrom; stepfather, Don Ellstrom; and two brothers, William (Bill) Brier and Walter (Wally) Brier.

Richard graduated from Parks College with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He had various jobs throughout his life starting on the floor of a steel mill after college and ending as an IT project manager.

Richard enjoyed traveling, softball, square dancing with Double H, old TV shows, science fiction, music, playing games, bowling, the Senior Games, and spending time with friends and family. He was faithfully devoted to God and worshiped with Wesley Chapel.

Visitation will be conducted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to one of the following: Lustgarten Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research, American Diabetes Association or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
