Pecan Grove Funeral Home - WacoRichard “Rick” Alan Buckner, age 74, of Hewitt, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on March 12, 2026. He was born on February 13, 1952, in Waco, Texas, to Leonard and Ruth Buckner, who preceded him in death.
Rick was a man of many talents and passions. Throughout his life he worked as a musician, painter, and computer technician, but above all he was known as a teacher at heart. He had a unique way of sharing what he knew with anyone willing to listen. His knowledge, patience, and willingness to help others often made people better, whether they realized it at the time or not.
Rick loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He could often be found working in the yard, fishing, tinkering on projects, carving wood, building model cars, or firing up the barbecue. He also loved camping and spending time visiting with his neighbors. Music was a lifelong passion, and he enjoyed singing in bands and serving on the church praise team. He also gave his time coaching little league softball, leaving a lasting impression on the young athletes he encouraged.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Tindell Buckner; his daughters, Teresa Byford and husband Travis Byford, and Stacey Grabenstein and partner Cindy Parker; and his beloved grandchildren, Kevin Tullous and wife Katie Tullous, Garrett Byford, Sarah Rowell and husband Eric Rowell, Carson Byford and his beloved pet, Harley.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Kamri Tullous, Sean Rowell, and Jane Rowell.
He will also be dearly missed by many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, countless cousins, family and friends
Rick was preceded in death by his sisters, Judy Kinder and Beverly Haigood and his infant brother, Buddy.
Rick will be remembered for his generous spirit, his love for family and music, and the many lessons he shared with those around him.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Accent Hospice team & Dr. Meyers Office for their compassionate care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Riesel Lions Park in Riesel, Texas. Family and friends are invited to come together to share memories, laughter, and stories in honor of Rick’s life.
