HEADLAND...Richard Ross "Rick" Burris, Jr., a resident of Headland, died Wednesday night, May 25, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. He was 75.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 28, 2022, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Randy Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 205 Holly Lane, Dothan, AL 36301.
Rick Burris was born in Marion, Indiana and moved with his family to Atlanta as a child. At an early age, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War where he saw active duty in Southeast Asia off the coast of Vietnam. After serving in the military, Rick enrolled in the University of West Georgia where he received a BBA in Accounting and Finance. He was employed by several national and international corporations as an Accountant and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Rick lived most of his life in Atlanta before moving to Headland in 2003. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity and was a former member of the Headland Kiwanis Club. Rick was an avid gardener, fisherman, golfer and Braves fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Ross Burris, Sr. and Joyce Jeffries Burris, and two brothers, Barry Burris and Randy Burris.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Lisa Wood Burris, a son, Ross Burris (Meredith), Decatur, Ga; two grandchildren, Benjamin Owens "Ben" Burris and Caroline Faye Burris, and special friends, Doug and Sylvia Lavender.
