Dick and I were very close friends in grade and high school. We were in a group of guys who loved baseball, football and hockey. Dick was an outstanding athlete and a very good guy. The Buss home on Mountain Street was our gathering spot.

I am so sorry for your loss Janice, Tim, and Joel, and for all the rest of us.
Dick was a common man, simple, humble, down-to-earth, quiet. What you see is what you get. He was the opposite of complicated, eccentric, pretentious. He was kind, friendly, approachable, and as masculine a man as I've ever known. At parties I would gravitate toward him.
Dick was an AMC man, drove Jeeps most of his life.
He loved cutting firewood, making homemade wine and moonshine. His house always had the sweet smell of fireplace, Sugar Barrel pipe tobacco, and deer jerky drying. Stacks of Outdoorsman magazine and antlers on his basement walls. There was a sign above his basement stairwell, "Six muns ago I couldn't even spell 'buchar'. Now I are one."
He really loved to eat!!
When I built my house, Dick and my dad cleared the trees on my property.
Dick was a colorful story teller. He had a hundred stories about his childhood. Countless times he would say, "I'd love to be a kid again."
He loved Laurel & Hardy and the Three Stooges, and watching baseball and hockey. He claimed he once tried out for the Chicago Cubs, and that he knew Stan Makita. (Not sure I believed him.)
I noticed the love, and affection, and respect he showed to Janice. I noticed what a gentleman he was, and how he treated her like a lady.
I noticed the love he had, and the friendship he had with Tim and Joel, and how they put him on a pedestal.
I guess I shouldn't be as sad as I am, now that he's gone. Dick lived a full, good life. I really didn't see him often, but I was content knowing he was around. Things won't be the same, now that he's gone.
I hope he picked on the fact that I thought the world of him.
Semper Fi, Dick!! Rest in peace, Dear Uncle.
Good bye, for now
