Richard Adkins Obituary
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Linda A. Adkins; his daughter, Genesee Adkins, and her husband, John K. Seman of Seattle, WA; his son, Grey Adkins, and his wife, Kaleigh Stachura of Poolesville, MD; and three grandchildren-Ayler, Alice, and Everitt-who knew him lovingly as "Poppy." He is also survived by his sister, Linda Louise Adkins of Beckley, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Sherrill Adkins.
Born in Beckley in 1949, Richard graduated from Montgomery Blair High School and later joined the Merchant Marines with his lifelong friend, Mark Wood. Known as the "Zen Master" of plumbing, he earned a loyal following for his skill and good nature. He loved fruit pies, live music, and all forms of friendly competition-especially chess, which he played with formidable skill.
The family will hold a private remembrance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kline House Hospice in Mt. Airy, Maryland
