Richard Peter Clark, 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on October 13, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Anna (Donlon) Fegan and Joseph Clark.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, known for his quick wit, big heart, and tireless work ethic. Growing up in a catholic home for boys separated from his siblings, they found their way to one another and forged strong bonds that have been carried on to the next generations. With his beloved wife, Janet, he rekindled his Catholic faith; the hymn “Amazing Grace” held special meaning—once lost, now found. He was proud to be a retired locomotive engineer with Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) in New York and New Jersey. His children remember that he never passed up an overtime shift—yet he never missed a school event, a bike ride, or a family gathering. After retiring from the rails, he and his beloved wife, Janet, moved to his favorite vacation spot—South Carolina—where he happily embraced his favorite role: grandfather. He took great joy in serving ice cream for breakfast, playing video games, and keeping a puzzle going on the dining room table. He loved family vacations and road trips to New Jersey, New York, and Indiana, keeping his lifelong tradition of showing up for every milestone in his grandchildren’s lives. To many he was Uncle Richie, Grandpa, or Papa—because he truly loved experiencing the world through the eyes of his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clark and Anna Fegan and his siblings, Joseph, John, Nora, Joan, and Tommy.
Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Clark; his children Kenneth (Deborah) Clark, Richard (Christine) Clark, and Melissa (Michael) Mahnken; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Kailynn, Connor, Madison, Mackenzie, Brady, Emily, and Sophie.
