Richard Andrew Coan, 62, of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on February 6, 2026.
Born in Queens, NY, on June 6, 1963, Richard was the son of Joan and Thomas Coan. He grew up in Bayport, where he learned resilience and self-reliance from an early age, raised by his single mother with the support of his siblings. Despite a spirited youth, which included memorable antics and stories he loved to share, Richard developed an inherent curiosity for how things worked, a trait that would define his professional life.
Richard graduated from Bayport Blue Point High School in 1982 and further honed his skills at BOCES, specializing in Metal Working, Fabrication, and Welding. His passion for understanding and fixing things led him to become a respected leader in the machining industry. Known by name, he trained many and contributed to a multitude of impressive projects, ranging from those for the U.S. Military to local dessert companies.
Richard leaves behind a loving family, including his sons, Richard and Michael, his daughter-in-law, Rachel, his sisters, Patricia and Barbara, and his brother Tommy. He was also the beloved fiancé of Julie, with whom he shared many cherished years and memories.
His legacy and Irish pride live on through his grandchildren, who were his greatest joy. He was the proud grandfather of Brian, Hunter, and Kevin, and affectionately known as "Papa" to Marissa, Vinny, and Olivia.
Richard imparted invaluable life lessons to his children and grandchildren, emphasizing the importance of fixing something rather than throwing it away, and appreciating the small, yet significant, things in life. He will be remembered for his strong personality, his unwavering love for family, his dependability, and his protective nature. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it involved fixing a leaky pipe, welding metal, or hauling furniture.
Contributions to his memory can be made to the Cancer Research Institute: Advancing Immunotherapy Research in lieu of flowers.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 28, at Moloney Funeral Home (825 Main St, Holbrook, NY 11741) from 6pm to 9pm.
