Richard Victor Crum, age 83 of
Valparaiso, IN passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023. He was born on September 18, 1939 to Victor and Edith (Coan) Crum.
Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (Fritz) Crum; daughter, Colleen (Fred) Fleischman; son, Paul (Lisa) Crum; grandsons, Richard (Kara) Weltzin, John (Diana) Mosier; granddaughters, Crystal (Greg Monnier) Weltzin, Lindy Crum; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor, and Edith Crum; and daughter, Connie Dille.
Richard was a very compassionate, loving, and caring man. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard's bark was always bigger than his bite, but once it was realized, he was a teddy bear. Anyone who knew him, knew of his stories of working in the cold. Richard worked for NIPSCO for 35 years as a heavy crane operator. The grandkids always loved hearing his stories of fast cars and especially his 1955 Chevy. Once he was shifting gears and the gear shifter fell off the column causing him to shift the column by hand. Richard loved his time with Barbara at the Purple Onion back in the 50's. He is going to be missed, especially all of the stories he told.
Thank you to everyone that helped Richard through his illness, but most of all to his granddaughter, Crystal Weltzin. Grandpa will always remember the care and love that you gave him. You did an amazing job and you are loved by all.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 6:00 pm at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Avenue,
Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's honor may be made to The American Legion Post 502, 429W 750 N,Valparaiso In. 46385.
