HANOVER TWP. — Richard Arthur Davies passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at home in Hanover Township.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on Nov. 18, 1954, he was the son of the late William and Ann (Edwards) Davies of Wilkes-Barre. Rick graduated from GAR High School in 1972. Rick had a passion for playing guitar all of his life, and was an accomplished guitarist. He was proud of his Welsh heritage, and always enjoyed reading and watching anything about Wales. The Phillies ("Lager up") and Eagles were his favorite teams. Rick was a British car enthusiast and loved working on and restoring his 1957 Triumph TR3. He enjoyed many summers fishing with his sons. He loved spending time with all of his children and grandchildren, celebrating every birthday and holiday together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: William D., Kenneth, and David Davies; sisters: Janice Dombek, Sandra L. McCormack and Jean Davies; and brothers-in-law: Arthur B. Bush, James H. Balmer and George Dombek.
Rick is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sumnar Davies; sons: Richard Douglas Davies, of Sweet Valley; Daniel Evan Davies (partner, Kaitlin Hannigan), of Harveys Lake; daughters: Sarah Levi (Michael), of Luzerne; and Laura Thomas (Robert), of Kingston; granddaughter, Gabrielle Davies; and grandson, Owen Davies. He is survived by his sisters: Joyce Bush, Cherry Hill, N.J.; Phyllis J. Balmer, Dallas, Pa.; Ann (Anthony) Esser, Anthem, Ariz.; and Linda M. (Michael) St. Pierre, Wilkes-Barre; brothers: Paul E. (Patricia), Shavertown; and Wayne (Jean), Irmo, S.C.; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann R. Davies and Delia J. Davies; brother-in-law, Frank E. McCormack; and many nieces and nephews.

Dear Sumnar, I was very sad to hear of Rick´s passing. My sincere condolences to you and your family! Although I hadn´t seen him in many years, I will always remember what a mild-mannered friend he was in addition to being a fabulous guitarist, going all the way back to our very early days at GAR. May he rest in peace!

Sumnar and family: My sincere condolences. I remember you both attending my church, First Welsh Presbyterian, years ago with fond memories. You are living in my grandmother Hughey's home, where I spent many, many happy hours. I graduated with Wayne and cheered with Linda at GAR and always enjoyed Jean. Rich was indeed a quiet, gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with you and family. Edi Lentini
