Richard F. DeJabet, age 88, of Madison, South Dakota, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at Madison Regional Health. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 8, at Our Savior Lutheran in Madison. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Madison. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 7 at Ellsworth Funeral Home, Madison; as well as one hour preceding the service at the church.
Richard "Dick" Foss DeJabet was born on November 20, 1935, to Harry and Lillian (DuPuy) DeJabet, in New Haven, Connecticut. He moved to Miami, Florida, as a teenager. In 1953, after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in Southern California. While there he met his future wife, Arlene Kracke. They were married on December 16, 1956. Richard and Arlene had three children.
Dick worked for East River Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1997. During a portion of his time at East River, he also managed the East River Credit Union. After his retirement, they spent many winters in Green Valley, Arizona.
Dick was a very active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, serving as President, Elder, and other various offices. In addition to being involved in the church, Dick enjoyed spending many hours on the golf course and time with his family.
Dick is survived by his wife Arlene, 3 children; David (Lee) DeJabet of Pierre, Doug DeJabet of Madison, and Dawn (Raul) Yturralde of El Paso, TX; 6 grandchildren: Christopher (Karen) DeJabet, Braeden DeJabet, Jerron DeJabet, Kaitlyn Krier, Isaac (Jessica) Yturralde, and Karissa Yturralde; and one great-grandchild, Jonathan DeJabet.
