Richard "Dick" Clark Fleming, 90, of Central City, Iowa, formerly of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Grand Living at Indian Creek in Marion, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, located at 21275 U Avenue in Reinbeck, where an additional visitation will be held for one hour prior to Mass. Burial will follow Mass at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Reinbeck, Iowa, where he will be placed to rest next to his beloved wife.
Dick was born January 31, 1935, in Dinsdale, Iowa, the son of Clark and Gertrude Fleming. Dick graduated from Dinsdale High School in 1953, then went onto Upper Iowa University, earning a degree in business. He was involved in baseball, basketball, track and golf at Upper Iowa.
Dick joined the Army in August of 1957, and served until honorably discharged in July of 1963. He worked for the federal government for 30 years and Rockwell Collins for 3 years. He also spent many years maintaining the grounds at Central City golf course and Squaw Creek golf course.
Dick married the love of his life Darlene Greiner on April 26, 1958, in New Jersey. They were married for 61 years until Darlene passed in January of 2020. Their love was strong and pure. They enjoyed traveling together, playing tennis, wintering in Arizona and spending time with family at their cabin in Guttenberg.
Dick had many hobbies but those who knew him, knew that his biggest passion was golf. He golfed for many years and spent a lot of time at the golf course in Central City, where he made many friends. He assistant coached the girls’ golf team at Central City, and continued to coach both of his granddaughters through their college golf careers. Dick also loved to fish, hunt and watch his son and granddaughters play sports. He will be greatly missed by many.
Dick is survived and remembered by his son, Allen Fleming of Central City, granddaughters, Kailey (Bowen) Wileman of Milton, Wisconsin and Madison (Luke) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was also survived by his sister-in-law, Janelle Fleming; a special family friend, Michelle Malek; several nieces and nephews; and multiple sisters and brothers-in-law that will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; his parents, brother, Bill Fleming, his mother and father-in-law, brothers-in-law, Donald Greiner, Dale Greiner, Leland Hulme; and other important family.
Memorials in Dick’s memory may be directed to the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association at 1200 Pleasant Street in Des Moines, Iowa 50309.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at Grand Living Center and Suncrest Hospice for their dedicated care and support given to Dick in his last months.
