Richard “Dick” Dale McCone, Sr., 93, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
He was born April 22, 1932 in Galesburg, the son of Marion “Mac” Alfred and Erminie Ellen (Camper) McCone. Dick was reared and educated in Galesburg. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1951, he proudly served in the United States Army. Over the years, Richard has worked for Wagoner’s Printing Company, A&P Grocery Store, and assisted in caregiving at a DD Home in Kewanee until his retirement.
Richard married E. Joyce (Searles) Headley and together they shared 60 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2016.
Left to cherish his memory is a special friend, Carol Swanson of Galesburg and a bonus family, the Courson’s, Donna (Tony) Courson, of Galesburg. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife; one son, Richard “Rick” McCone, Jr.; one brother, Robert McCone; and one sister, Betty Wilson.
Richard was of the catholic faith. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Dick liked listening to music and enjoyed playing the guitar. Most of all, he loved to go on a country car ride.
Cremation will be accorded. Private inurnment of his cremated remains will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 2257.
