Richard Downey Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 26, 2023.
Downey, Richard E., 82, of Bethpage passed away December 24, 2023. Reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife of 50 years, Ronnie. Loving father of Robert, John (Skyler Cordaro) and Michael (Jennifer). Cherished grandfather of Samantha, Allison, Denis and Kate. Dear brother of Dorothy Amato. Treasured friend to many. Richard had a good sense of humor and was enthusiastic about life. He was generous, supportive, responsible, and hardworking, making him a true gentleman and role model to his children and grandchildren. Family was very important to Richard, and he enjoyed every moment spent with them. He loved getting together for Sunday family dinners, especially when they went to his favorite spots, BK Sweeneys, Jackie Reilly's and Sal's Place. Richard was a proud retiree from Con Ed and coordinated breakfast every two weeks with his "Romeo" club, retired old men eating out. Richard was a history buff, he enjoyed playing pool and rummy cube, and loved to watch "Fox and Friends". There was no need for a handyman when Richard was around, he had an amazing way of being able to fix just about anything. Richard loved making apple martinis for his friends and family in celebration of his late wife, Ronnie, since they were her favorite. He will be truly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, December 27th, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., 234 Broadway, Bethpage. Funeral Mass Thursday, December 28th, 11 am at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Interment following at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Richard's memory to the Roswell Park Cancer Center; roswellpark.org.
