It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Allen Eskridge, a beloved member of the Mardela Springs community, who passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, just a day after his 83rd birthday. Born on March 23, 1943, in Riverton, MD, Richard was a true local, spending his life in the town he loved.
Richard proudly served in the Army with an honorable discharge before transitioning to a successful career in sales. Richard was a friendly and familiar face, known for his time as a dedicated salesman in the beer distribution industry with Carey Distributors, where he worked for 27 years after retiring from Verizon. Richard had a gift for building friendships, and his days were filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable memories.
Outside of work, Richard was actively involved in his community. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 218 in Sharptown, Delmar VFW Post 8276, and various lodges including the Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, and Redmen Lodge. His love for life extended beyond the everyday, as he cherished traveling, whether it was on a cruise or hitting the slopes on ski trips with friends. He thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors, loving yardwork and tending his flowers.
Richard leaves behind his niece, Cindy Melvin, his nephews, Brian Keith Eskridge (Cindy) and David Eskridge; and a great niece, Lauren Melvin.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Edward Eskridge, Sr. and Catherine White Eskridge; his brothers, Earl Edward Eskridge, Jr, Donald Eskridge, and Alan Eskridge and a great nephew, Jason Eskridge.
A graveside service honoring Richard will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Riverton Cemetery, located at 11509 Riverton Wharf Road, Mardela Springs, MD 21837. Friends, family, and all who knew him are invited to join us as we celebrate his life and the joy he brought to so many.
