Richard Aloysius Fahey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our 101 year old family patriarch, Richard A. Fahey, a native of Galveston, TX, and a resident of St. George, LA. The epitome of The Greatest Generation, he proudly served his country in the Army – Air Force during World War II. His story is forever a part of our nation’s oral history at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. After graduating from the University of Texas, Austin, he began his career with Alcoa Aluminum Company where he met and married the love of his life, Hazel Mae Warren, in 1957 and were blessed with two children. His career as a Purchasing Agent transferred the family several times, living on both east and west coasts with his final transfer to the New Orleans area, where he retired in 1990, and eventually moving to Baton Rouge in 1999.

The sacrifices he made, for his family were too numerous to count, as a husband, caregiver, father, teacher, and loving Paw-Paw. We were all incredibly blessed by him. To know him was to love him! He was so genuinely kind to every person he met. A man of incredibly deep faith, he grew up in a loving, Catholic family, serving as an altar boy for many years, and at one point contemplating priesthood. His exemplary faith was taught and shared with his family throughout his life. His genuine love of people, exceptional patience, quiet humility, and quick dry wit drew people to him. 

He loved the outdoors (especially the golf course!) and passing on the love of the game to his son and grandson at a young age. Some other life pleasures included tennis, which he played growing up with his older brother and later taught to both of his children; music, another great enjoyment, especially the big band era; whistling, humming, or singing (usually a funny song while dancing with his grandson in his arms) was not uncommon to hear and a huge part of his happy-go-lucky personality; and of course, football, Catholic High, LSU, Texas, Saints, and the Detroit Lions were favorites. And last, but not least, Oreo the cat, his best little furry buddy who was always curled up loving and napping on him. 

We were told by him many times how blessed he was when actually, HE was the biggest blessing to all of our lives! 

Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Hazel; parents and in-laws, two brothers, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law, & son-in-law. 

He is survived by daughter, Maureen Morgan (Jim); son, Richard Jr. (Amy); grandson, Darren Lucy (Kate) of Austin, TX; step grandson, Jake Morgan (Kelly);step great grandchildren, Malin, Maddie, and Tate Morgan; sister, Dorothea Jones of Greenville, SC; and nephews, Carl, James, and Paul Jones, and Patrick Fahey. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Dr., in Baton Rouge on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. The rosary will be recited beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy in Baton Rouge.
