Our condolences to the Filips Family. He always came to our table and acknowledged us and talked about his kids. He even delivered pizza to us, if he needed to help the drivers. It breaks my heart. May God bless the whole family.

I moved from Detroit to Chicago in 5th grade all the way back in 1990. Rick was one of my first friends at Cass Elementary. Our first moment together was running down this small hill on the way to play football at recess and our feet became tangled. We tumbled all the way down like a scene out of a cheesy movie. We laughed ours butts off and that was the beginning. I only lived in Downers Grove for 3 years (5-7 grade) but that´s all it took to form a brotherhood with him. I´d be remiss to not mention Dom and Jimmy in that brotherhood. We four were practically inseparable during those times. I had some of the best moments in my life in those short 3 years. Lots of discoveries happen for pre-teen boys and we were there to find them out together. Playing sports, having sleepovers, John Madden, puberty, voices cracking, building character, talking smack about my Detroit teams and his Chicago teams, and of course kissing girls. Over the last 30 years we lost touch but still jabbed each other whenever the Bears played the Lions. We may have lost touch but that childhood bond was never forgotten. I can still feel it deeply and clearly. I can´t believe you are gone. I will miss and love you forever.

I'll never forget our times playing drums, rollerblading, playing ice hockey on the pond, and the sleepovers when we would stay up talking all night together brother. You are dearly missed.
Mrs. Filips and family, you always made me feel like a part of the family and I wish that I could be there to support you right now.

Rick always called me Lainard, which made me laugh because it´s weird and made me feel special because I never really had a nickname. I´ll always cherish our long talks about music, religion, love, and life. I´ll miss your goofy sense of humor. I´ll always think of you when I hear certain songs. I could go on forever about all the glorious highs and sobering lows we´ve faced together these past 19 years that we were colleagues and friends. I´ll remember it all, and I´ll miss you forever, dear friend.
