Richard L. Finley

Richard L. Finley, 87, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away at home on Thursday, February 20, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 25, 1937, the son of Ernie Finley and Mabel (Gold) Diederik.
Richard married the love of his life, Caroline Soule on January 31, 1963 and the two spent the remaining years together until her passing in 2010. He worked for many years at United Steel and Wire until his retirement in 2001. To stay busy through his retirement, Richard and Carol owned and operated Dippidy Doo Ice Cream in Battle Creek. He also worked for Auto Value and started his own small engine repair company that he enjoyed for work and as one of his hobbies.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Mischelle "Shelly" (fiancé, Carl Corser) Ivy; grandchildren, Rebecca "Becky" (John) Cornwell, Tyler Ivy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Grand Rapids area. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Caroline Finley; son, Eric Finley; step-sister, June Vandenburg; and step-brother, Don Diederik.
Richard was an avid car enthusiast and collector who loved NASCAR and American Pickers. He loved country music and was always listening while working in his pole barn. Richard was an active community member that looked out for all those around him. He loved his family and was a solid friend and made sure to always let people know he was available when needed. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held at Hicks Cemetery on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 1:00 pm. A luncheon will follow the graveside at Dexter Lake Church of God starting at 2:30 pm.
