Richard (Dick) Lee Fisher, 87, of Plains Township, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and veteran passed peacefully at his family home on Thursday, November 13, 2025, with his loving wife and family caring for him as he left for heaven.
Born in Kreamer on New Year's Eve in 1937, Dick was one of three sons of the late Lee and Mary Yerger Fisher. Growing up, he attended Kreamer Elementary School and was a graduate of the Middleburg High School, class of 1955. Richard then joined the United States Navy and attained the rank of Petty Officer Third Class for his service to his country during the Korean War serving on the USS Corry 817. Dick was proud to be awarded the Underwater Demolitions Metal. This metal insignia that was placed above his heart meant he was part of the US Navy's Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs), which were the predecessors to the Navy SEALs. After his term of service, Richard was honorably discharged and even to this day he loved to wear his USS Corry veterans' hat that his family bought for him.
Dick came home and started his own landscaping business called Fisher Lawn and Landscaping. His company proudly took care of many properties and the Bucknell University for several years. As he was getting older, Dick closed the landscaping business and went to work for Rozanski Construction as a carpenter but later became the general manager of the Plains Lumber Yard until his retirement. He also worked security for the Biscontini Warehouse in Plains.
On July 27, 1984, Richard married his love, the former Christine T. Sheftz. Together the family resided in the Plains area. In his spare time, Dick was a devoted Eagles fan until he passed today wearing his Eagles blanket to keep him warm. In his younger days, he enjoyed going golfing and spending time at the horse racing track where he was a co-owner of a racehorse. As he aged into his golden years, Dick loved to spend time at the casino, but nothing meant more to him than spending holidays and time with his family that he deeply loved.
Like many veterans that return home, Dick was proud to join and be a member of the Plains American Legion, Post 558 for many years.
We know he is at peace and happy because he probably has the best Eagle's seat you can get. Fly high Dick and Go Eagles!
He was preceded in passing by his parents Lee and Mary; son Tom Cheeks; grandson Rodney Jones; and his brothers Gerald W. Fisher, and Sterling H. Fisher.
Surviving to mourn his homegoing are his loving wife Christine, Plains; son Scot A. Fisher and his wife Susan, Plains; son Christopher J. Fisher, Westford, MA; daughter Michelle Nowlin and her husband Kevin, Pittsburgh; son George Harris, Texas; grandchildren Desiree Fisher: Kailah Favors: Evelyn Fisher, and Xavier Cheeks; great grandchildren Victoria, Lincoln, and Malcolm; and extended family.
Services for Dick will be held privately for the family. A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains.
