Richard (Dick) Ryno Flook, 94, of Hagerstown, MD, passed peacefully from this life on October 30, 2025. He was a beloved and dedicated husband, dad and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Dick was born at home on March 5, 1931, to the late Evelyn (Corder) Flook Showe and Leon Ryno Flook in Hagerstown, MD. He was the oldest of nine children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Yvonne (Kunkleman) Flook who passed away on March 13, 2009. Dick graduate from Hagerstown High School in 1949. He shared many fond memories of his Boy Scout years as a member of Troop 5. He could still recite the Boy Scout pledge well into his 90's. He was proud to share stories of his West End days growing up on High Street and being a part of the George Street Terrors, an organized athletic league, where he was quarterback of the football team and played softball. He was the last surviving member. He was an avid shuffleboard player back in the 50's with many trophies. At the age of 20, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps serving our country during the Korean War from May 1951-1954. Later in life he shared stories of his combat experiences. He was a talented carpenter and could build anything he set his mind to. He built a houseboat that saw many good times on the Potomac River. This is where he met the love of his life, Alice, affectionately known as Yvonne, in 1959. In 1971, he built his family home in Cedar Lawn with help from his brothers. He lived in his home for 51 years until his health declined in 2022. Dick retired from Jamison Door in 1995 after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Morris Frock Post #42 American Legion Hagerstown, MD. Dick is survived by his children Julie Lough (Ed) and Dwayne Flook (Carrie); grandchildren Christine Haney (Jeff), Renee Minella, and Eddie Lough; great grandchildren Jordan, Zoe, Baker Haney and Henry Minella; sisters Josephine Flook (Richard) and Carol Cook (Joe); brothers Renfred Flook, Ronald Flook (Theresa) and Joe Showe; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother Robert Flook, and sisters Joan James and Donna Showe. He led a simple but fulfilled life and lived by the words "never bite off more than you can chew" and "what's our game plan". He was a hard worker who led by example with good morals and principles. He never complained, even when his dementia progressed. He was truly a good and decent person all his life and everyone loved and respected him. Dick loved to have a good time and dance. He and his wife were wonderful dancers and won jitterbug contests. They could float across the dance floor. They are now reunited and dancing together in heaven. I'm sure she asked him "what took you so long". Family was very important to him, and he never missed any sporting events his kids and grandkids were involved in. He loved helping with school projects. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. The family would like to thank the staff at Fahrney Keedy Memory Care for their love and compassion shown during the past year and to Commonwealth Senior Living. The staff will always think of Dick when they eat a rice cake. In addition, thank you to Hospice of Washington County for their care over the past few weeks. A private burial will be held at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. I'm so sorry for your loss, my mother, Phil and my dad Clyde were friends with him and Alice. Alice was my moms best friend. Dick used to come to our house before he married Alice,my sister and I wanted to go for a ride in his red Ford convertible and sit on the back, but mom said no,so Dick made us sit on the back seat and when he turned the corner he stopped the car and told us to get up on the back on the seat, he took us a couple of blocks and then made us get down. Later in life we had great memories of going to the Moose and the American Legion we knew that we were going to have a good time when they were there.
