In Loving Memory of Richard E. Fluck 12/14/1936-04/17/2025
Richard was a proud retired farmer and devoted family man. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17th at the young age of 88 years old surrounded by family.
Born in Sterling, Richard spent his life working the land with strong hands and a kind heart. He dedicated decades to farming, rising with the sun and always making time to help a neighbor or share a story over a cup of iced tea. He had a deep appreciation for tractors, both the old workhorses and the shiny new models, and could talk about them for hours with anyone who'd listen. When he wasn't busy tending to the fields, Richard was the Nelson Township Road commissioner for over 40 years and was a long-term member of the ARC of Lee County. His favorite past time after retirement was being a member of the Bocce club of Lake Summerset.
Though he was passionate about farming, Richard's greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband to Patricia. A father to Scott, Karen, Teasha, Tori, and David. A cherished grandfather to Danielle, Ian, Quaide, Briannah, Kylie and a great-grandfather to Vivian and Wyatt. He never missed a birthday, a ball game, or a chance to drag his grandkids to the nearest train museum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Francis (McMillan) Fluck; one daughter, Karen Fluck; and one grandson, Ian Novay.
He will be remembered for his gentle humor, his quiet wisdom, and teaching his grandchildren how to spit spitballs at their grandmother. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, honesty, and love.
A service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at his old elementary school in Nelson, now renamed "Parties on Pope", from 4-7pm on Friday, April 25th. All are welcome to grab some food and share stories of their favorite neighborly farmer.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
