Born March 31, 1924, Richard James "Pop" Frady Sr, native of Wake County, passed away peacefully in the home he shared with his granddaughter, Alexis Ruth, on Monday January 29, 2018 at 93 years old. Pop was a US Navy Veteran, having served in the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth, Virginia during World War 2. He later owned and operated Teen's Dairy Bar in Wendell, NC for several years before retiring from both Durham Life Insurance and the NC Department of Transportation. Beyond work, Pop dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the Boy Scouts and the great outdoors as both a Scout Master and an Order of the Arrow Member where he was recognized with the Vigil Honor for his distinguished contributions to the Order of the Arrow. Among several other awards, Pop was also presented with the highest honor for an adult Scout, The Silver Beaver award. In addition, he was a member of the Lions Club, AMVETS, and American Legion, and enjoyed his free time by way of golf, camping, billiards, fishing, and attending his grandchildrens' school and extracurricular activities. Pop retired to Elizabethtown to be closer to his grandchildren and devoted the last 18 years of his life to supporting them at dance recitals, games, celebrations and ceremonies between Saturdays spent cooking pork loin sandwiches and hotdogs for Dixie Youth (where he was honored with the Baseball Director's Award), and watching the Andy Griffith Show and Wheel of Fortune. Richard is predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Tippett Frady of Wendell; parents: Oliver Van and Ollie Frances, brother: Oliver Van Frady Jr.; sisters: Margaret Todd, Helen Faye Tunstall, and Frances Eddins, and beloved dogs Lucy and Barney, along with countless other pets. He is lovingly survived by one son: Richard James Frady Jr., and his wife Deborah Shaw Frady; grandchildren: Carson Ryan, Alexis Ruth, and Jayme LeeAnn; one sister: Eva Frady Liles; many nieces and nephews; great granddogs: Apple, Bentley, and Jeter and cat: Cali. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 1 pm in the chapel mausoleum at Raleigh Memorial Park 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612. Very sorry for your loss James. I enjoyed working for you at Harriet & Henderson in Clarkton back in 1989.
While I never had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Frady, I understand that he was a fine gentleman who was
beloved by all who knew him.
I can certainly attest to the fact that he left behind a very fine son .
May God bless you and your family always.

I am so sorry for the loss of Mr. Frady, I delivered many meals to him when I worked with the Division of Aging. He always had a smile and a happy hello. I don't remember him ever complaining about anything. His sweet cat usually met me in the carport and up the ramp. He left a beautiful footprint on my heart, as he was truly a special man. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss, always know he loved you and his memory will last forever. Sincerely, Paula Warwick

Greatest uncle a guy could have. He served as my father when his pal, Jack, passed away at a young age. He loved his family and my prayers are with all of them.
