Richard John Freeman, 84, of Lostant, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Arc of Streator.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 17, 2025 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tonica with Karen Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tonica. Visitation will be held 4-7:00 PM Thursday at the Mueller Funeral Home, Lostant. Additional visitation will be held 10-10:50 AM Friday at the church.
Mr. Freeman was born May 14, 1940 in LaSalle to Kermit F. and Florence F. (Nagel) Freeman. He was a graduate of Lostant High School, Class of 1958. He married Bonnie Lou Jones on August 21, 1965 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tonica.
Mr. Freeman worked for 32 years at Owens Glass in Streator. Church and family were very important to him. Mr. Freeman was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tonica where he held many positions on the church council and was active in the Lutheran Brotherhood. He was also a member of Alcoholics Anonymous since 1990. Mr. Freeman was a legendary bowler and fisherman. He enjoyed puzzles, tinkering, and outdoor activities, including gardening and mowing the grass. His greatest joy was visiting and chatting with family and friends, especially if a meal was involved.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; five children, Jolene (Jon) Salz of Tonica, Mary Engelhorn of El Paso, John (Darlene) Freeman of Lostant, Patty (Mike) Bernardoni of Lostant, and Jeff Freeman of Leonore; eight grandchildren, Cara (Bruce) Ludwick, Erin (Ethan) Wilborn, Ryan Salz, Caitlyn Engelhorn, Jimmy Engelhorn, Madison Freeman, Kayte (Austin Biagini) Bernardoni, and Lauren Bernardoni; six great-grandchildren, Henry and Audrey Ludwick, Lane, Reagan, and Logan Wilborn, and Lilah Freeman; one brother, Randy (Jenny Lawrence) Freeman of Lostant; two sisters, Margie (Mike "Oscar") VanDeWyngaerde of Oglesby and Marilyn (Jim) Loveland of Spring Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Austin Freeman; and three brothers, Roger, Robert, and Ronald "Ronnie" Freeman.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
