Richard Alan "Rick" Gentry Sr., 78, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.
He was born on March 22, 1947, in Elwood, Indiana to Karl Leroy and Mildred A. (French) Gentry. He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson as a suggestion coordinator. He was a farmer when he was a younger man.
Rick was a gun collector. He enjoyed hunting and loved being outside. He enjoyed working with wood and cutting/splitting trees. He loved flying his Ultralight plane. He was a Jack-of-all-trades and could do anything. He was good at whatever he did. He also enjoyed hunting for arrowheads.
Rick is survived by his wife, Sandra C. "Sandy" (Welch) Gentry; four children, Richard Alan "Rick" (wife, Carol) Gentry Jr., John Anthony (wife, Lisa) Gentry, Curtis Roy (wife, Misty) Gentry and Kerri (husband, Jeff) Purdy; eight grandchildren, Justin (wife, Brooke) Gentry, John (wife, Rachel) Gentry, James Gentry, Kyle Purdy, Bailey Harris, Nick (fiance, Gabi) Purdy, Madison Chitwood, and Jackson Chitwood; four great-grandchildren, Gwen Gentry, Paxton Gentry, Marcie Gentry and Mavis Gentry; two sisters-in-law, Karla Gentry and Denise Welch; a brother-in-law, David (wife, Linda) Welch; his former wife, Marilyn Gentry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Wainscott; his parents; and two brothers, Kenny Gentry and Steven Gentry.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Community Hospice, especially Jen, Laura and Brooke, for the care that they gave to Rick.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lapel Chapel, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051. Burial will follow at Perkinsville Cemetery in Anderson.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, at the funeral home.
