Richard Gibson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2013.
Richard Edward Gibson With great sadness, the family of Richard "Dick" Gibson announces his death on January 25, 2013. Dick was born April 16, 1937 to the late Charles and Mary (Dunn) Gibson of Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Dick was a 1956 graduate of Jeannette High School and served honorably in the United States Army. In 1961, he married Joann Smith of Jeannette, Pennsylvania. He worked for more than 30 years for Kmart Corporation including nearly 15 years spent abroad in Melbourne, Australia and Toronto, Canada. Following his retirement in 1995, Dick and Joann lived in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and later at Rose Hill in Montpelier, Virginia before relocating to Indianapolis in May of 2010. Following retirement, Dick volunteered for Meals on Wheels and served on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Among his many loves were his family, working at Rose Hill with his wife Joann, spending time with his grandchildren and vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Sadly, Dick lost Joann on November 24, 2012 after 51 years of marriage. He is survived by two daughters, Carrie Gibson Doehrmann (Derek) of Speedway, Indiana and Lynn Gibson Taucher (Tim) of Wexford, Pennsylvania and four grandchildren, Molly and Sam Doehrmann and Jack and Beck Taucher. Dick is survived by nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Sheryl Gibson. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Jack Gibson. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday February 2, 2013 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Speedway, Indiana with the Rev. Jeffrey Bower officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, Speedway or to St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.
