Richard Hall

Funeral Service for Richard “Dick” Hall, 88, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Military funeral honors will be presented by Dickinson American Legion Post #3. Burial will take place at a later date in the North Dakota Veteran Cemetery in Mandan.

Visitation for Dick will be 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at the funeral home.

Dick passed away, surrounded by family on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Richard Daniel was born in Seattle, Washington on January 15, 1936, the son of Elmer and Mary Frances (Daub) Hall. Growing up in Washington, he started school in Seattle and finished his schooling in Paulsbo, WA. After school Dick would rush home to work with his father at the family resort in Kingston, WA.  Dick then enlisted with the US Marine Corp from March 1954 until March 1957. Upon returning home, he helped his mother at her café in Kingston, WA. This is where Dick gained the love of a good burger. He then re-enlisted with the US Air Force, serving from the Minot Air Force Base from 1959-1963. Following his honorable discharge, he opened his own bar and café and then later transitioned into a new career a sales rep for Dakota Tobacco & Candy Company until 1985. During his travels for this job, he met the love of his life, Rosalie.

Dick married Rosalie Haider on August 7, 1984 in Rapid City, SD. The couple moved to Dickinson in 1984 before they moved to Portland, OR where they managed an apartment complex until 1998. Through their marriage, Dick proudly inherited five children. Dick and Rosalie returned to Dickinson to be closer to family. Dick then worked maintenance at the Dickinson Press for nearly 20 years, retiring in 2018. 

He enjoyed camping, riding motorcycle but mostly treasured his time fishing with family and friends on Lake Sakakawea. Wood working and old cars were a favorite past time. He enjoyed traveling, whether out of state or just a quick trip to Menards. Dick would fall hook, line and sinker for a good bargin, regardless if he need it or not. He will be remembered as a jokester who enjoyed putting a smile on everyone’s face. Dick was very grateful for his family, children, grandchildren and friends.

Dick is survived by his wife, Rosalie of 39 years; children, Bruce (Sue) Haider of Dickinson, Ken (Chris) Haider of Rexburg, ID, Tamara Johnson (Wayne Scheeler) of Dickinson, Curt (Kay) Haider of Dickinson, Beth (Robby) Urbanec of Dickinson; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Frances Hall; grandparents; and grandchild, Mary Beth Haider, son-in-law, Jerry Johnson.
