Richard E. Hartford

Richard E. Hartford, age 82, of Northwood, OH passed away peacefully on May 14, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born in Toledo, OH on January 9, 1940, to Orville and Ruth Hartford, and grew up in Oregon, OH where he graduated from Clay High School. He went on to join the AirForce and was eventually stationed in Athens, Greece where he met the love of his life, Barbara. They married in 1960 while in Greece and returned to the United States to begin their eventual life of 62 years together. Upon his return to the Oregon area, Richard began work in railroad security. This position inspired him to pursue a career in law enforcement. In 1970, Richard joined the Oregon Police Department and proudly served the community for 24 years, retiring in 1994.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Steve Hartford and Sue (Ravi) Narra; grandchildren, Sam, Erika, Noah, and Stephanie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; son, Harry; parents; and four siblings.

Richard loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing over the years in Lake Erie, tinkering in the yard, listening to bluegrass music, and especially loved watching Detroit Tigers baseball. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he and his wife Barbara were devoted parishioners. Activities at the church included Young at Heart, volunteer work for the community and the Greek-American Festival.

The family wishes to thank ProMedica Heartland Hospice and Father Larry for their care and support during Richard's final days.

The family will receive friends at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 N. Superior St., Toledo, on Saturday, May 21st from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Lake Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral or ProMedica.
