Richard Lewis Hays, age 61, of Central City, Illinois and formerly of Kinmundy passed away at 11:53 am, Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Fairfield, Illinois.
Richard was born on May 17, 1964, in Salem, Illinois the son of Carrel Lewis and Linda Lee (Speer) Hays.
Richard dedicated several years of his life to working for Lusch Excavating in Salem, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his commitment and skill. His deep connection to his hometown and community was evident in both his professional and personal life.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard found joy in fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and build lasting memories with his close-knit group of friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed attending demolition derbies, reveling in the excitement and camaraderie of the events. Richard was known for his quiet demeanor, yet those who knew him appreciated his kindness and the genuine affection he held for his friends.
Additionally, Richard was a true dog lover; he had a unique ability to connect with dogs, and they often gravitated toward him, sensing his gentle spirit. His love for animals was just one facet of his warm and approachable character.
Richard is survived by his mother: Linda Tucker of Mill Shoals, Illinois; sister: Rita Hays of Central City, Illinois; brother: Randy Hays of Clarksville, Tennessee; and he is survived by many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his father; grandmother: Carrie Hays; uncle: Darrel Hays.
