Richard A. Hestness, age 81, of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away October 14, 2025, at CHI-Mercy Hospital. Richard was born October 21, 1943, in Thompson, IA to the late Leonard and Ruth P. (Olson) Hestness.
He graduated from Abrham Lincoln High School in 1962. Richard married V. Diane Saggs on June 6, 1964, in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with three children, Susan, David, and Debora. Richard worked for Aquila/Peoples Natural Gas for 20 plus years retiring in 2003. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Diane in 2020; sisters, Kay (Norm) Pitt, Marlene (Frank) Turk and brother, Robert. Richard is survived by his children, Susan (Scott) Mullins, David (Becky) Hestness, Deb (Jon White) Hestness all of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Connie Hestness of Des Moines, IA; nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family, Friday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Saturday, 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment Ridgewood Cemetery with a lunch following at the Walnut Hill Reception Center. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
