Richard Michael Higgins

Richard M. Higgins, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025, with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Rosanne M. (D'Ambra) Higgins. Richard is survived by his loving daughters Flori M. L'Heureux and Roxanne M. Carter, his grandsons Kevin Carter, Jonathan Carter and Shawn Burke II; his great-grandsons Aiden, Luca and Cody Carter, as well as his companion Christine S. Parenteau. He is predeceased by his two beloved children, David J. Giroux and Gina M. Burke, as well as his cherished grandson David R. Giroux.
Born in Providence to the late James M. and Mary (Murphy) Higgins, Richard was also predeceased by his three siblings: Daniel Higgins, James Higgins, and Kathleen Laorenza. He leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Richard served honorably during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he resumed his career at General Electric, where he dedicated 35 years and ultimately retired as a manager in the Wiring Device Division.
An accomplished academic, Richard earned bachelor's degrees in both business and economics from Johnson & Wales University. He was an active member of American Legion Post 43 and the Tri-City Elks Lodge, and he enjoyed spending his free time playing cards, especially high-low-jack. Richard was also an enthusiastic sports fan, with a special love for the New England Patriots and the Providence College Friars, a passion he delighted in sharing with his friends and family.
His visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in The Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. His funeral will follow on Wednesday, beginning at 9:30am from the funeral home, with a Funeral Service at 10:00am. Burial will take place immediately after the service in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
