Sylva - Richard Allen Hooper, 67, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, after a period of declining health, at his residence.
Richard was born in Walhalla, South Carolina to the late Charles Candler and Lois Brown Hooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Dean Hooper (also known as Dooner) and Dale Hooper; and one sister, Deloise Anderson. He retired from Western Carolina University as the recycling manager with 30 years of service and was a member of Old Savannah Baptist Church. Richard enjoyed spending time and eating meals with his family whom he loved very much. He loved working at PJ's and catching up on morning gossip with the coffee club.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Connie Hall Hooper; a daughter, Krista Hooper Beck (Nathan); son, C.B. "Brandon" Hooper ( Kim); and mother-in-law, Frances Lewis Hall; a special fur baby, Karsyn; and had a special bond with his sister-in-law, Pam Ashe and brother-in-law, Keith Hall. Richard also had two very special friends, Jay Nix and Gregg Hildebrandt.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Reverend Keith Ashe and Reverend John Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Old Savannah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Savannah Cemetery, 138 Sutton Branch Road, Sylva, NC 28779.
