In memory of
John French
October 26, 2025
I am from the historic online naval community and, although I knew Rich was worryingly offline for a while, I just found out today, over a year later, that our worst fears were confirmed.
Rich was a very valued member of our historic naval community and will be greatly missed. "Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí dá n-anam"
John French.

As another person who knew Rich through naval history sites, I would like to pass on my sympathy and condolences to his family and friends. While my interactions with him were of a limited nature, I will always remember his good hearted support, positive nature, and willingness to bring another into our community here.
Through his character, understanding and real interest in others here, Rich brought with him a level of persona and real human interaction to the cold void of internet anonymity that is sadly so common in our day. He will be missed, and fondly remembered.
May your memories of him be a blessing on your days.

This is late-coming, apologies, I am another person who knew Rich from the online naval history community. He was a mainstay and leader of that community and his knowledge, collegial attitude and courtesy will all be sadly missed. Rest in Peace Friend.

This is late, but wanted to pay my respects in whatever way I can. I am another of Rich's online naval history friends. As others have pointed out, he was such a bedrock of the online community on our website, as he was on several others as well. He really went out of his way to support us as a community. In my correspondences with him, he was always such a gentleman and scholar. He will indeed be sorely missed. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

Another friend from the naval history world offering sincere condolences:
Rich was such a fixture among us for so long, it is hard to accept that he has left us. I have no doubt that he got the proper promotion to move upstairs. A good man ..... he will be missed.

As a long time member of the naval community which "Big Rich" as he was known frequented, well over 20 years now, we'll miss his contributions. Certainly now Big Rich is on the eternal calm sea and prosperous voyage in the company of the saints on the heavenly sea.

Rich was an online friend of mine for years. He was always willing to take time to talk over anything, and his kindness will be sorely missed. His knowledge regarding Naval matters was impressive, and his passing has left a hole in our small community. Fair Winds and Following Seas to you old friend.
