I worked with Rick on Elena Guajardo's re-election campaign and recall his hard work for her. He was a dedicated friend and collaborator to Elena and the campaign was all the better for his participation.

My prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.

Please accept my condolences for Rick's sudden passing. From the moment I met Rick, we became immediate friends as he did with many in our community. You always knew where he stood and he didn't hesitate to affirm his stance when it came to working in the community. He has left us with such a big task that it will take many of us to begin to try and fill his shoes. He always spoke so highly of his family, was a complete gentleman and a true friend. He is greatly missed but I know is still with us in spirit. May we honor his work in ours. My prayers are with you.

I am so saddened by the news of Rick’s passing. I will always remember him as cheerful, and kind, with a sharp-witted unbridled sense of humor that I was fortunate enough to share with him whenever we spoke. His diligent leadership and dedication to the University Park Neighborhood Association, its’ residents, and the community cannot be forgotten. Because of his drive, enthusiasm, spirit and energy many of the residents have new streets, better drainage, a dialogue with city offices and officials and a pride in their homes and neighborhood.
In honor of his hard work, I have hope that the neighbors of University Park will continue the legacy Rick left behind- to maintain and continue the revitalization effort and to be proud of their homes and neighborhood. And as Rick did; knock on doors with a friendly reminder that we (united) live in the neighborhood and let’s work together to make the community a more livable place.
Rick touched many lives with a generosity of his time, kindness of heart, and loyalty to family, friends, and causes close to him. I am so thankful for knowing him and will miss him dearly.

Mike, I just learned of the passing of your brother Rick. My mom, my dad, my brothers, my sisters, and myself offer sincere condolences to your family.

Also, I wish to thank Rick for the improvements in our neighborhood.

Mike and Carl, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Rick's passing. I will never forget the thoughtful and kind ways he treated my parents when they were still living. They were both very fond of him, and I am appreciative of his support.

On behalf of the Class of 2009 of the Community Leadership Institute, we were so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. He has been in our thoughts and he will be missed tremendously for his dedication to our community.

I wish to express my deepest sympathy on the untimely death of "Rick" Idar.

The many years he devoted to community service as a member and former President of the University Park Neighborhood Association will be long remembered. Due to his leadership, diligence and hard work, there have been several improvements in the
University Park area. He will be sorely missed by the neighborhood residents as well as by his numerous friends.

I intend to adjourn our next Commissioners Court Meeting on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 in his memory. I share your personal grief as we have lost a needed and valued member of our community.

Many of us are still in shock. We miss you already, Rick. Thank you for all your support even before we met officially. Just last month we talked about those close to us that have left us and how much we miss them. Now you have joined them.
