Richard Thomas Jilbert, born on May 29, 1930, in Highland Park, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at the age of 94.
He is survived by his sons, Richard, David, and Paul Jilbert, and daughter, Mary Wetter. Richard’s legacy will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
A proud veteran, Richard served in the United States Navy from 1951, until his honorable discharge in 1955, achieving the rank of Electronics Technician First Class (ET1). His service instilled in him a love for adventure and exploration, qualities that he carried throughout his life.
After completing his military service, Richard pursued a successful career as an electrical engineer in the automotive industry, dedicating many years to General Motors. His innovative spirit and commitment to excellence contributed to shaping the future of automotive engineering, leaving an indelible mark on the field.
Richard was a man of great integrity and passion, always eager to share stories of his life experiences and his love for adventure with those around him. His enthusiasm and zest for life impacted everyone he met.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard (Marilyn) Jilbert, David (Lisa) Jilbert, Paul (Joann) Jilbert, and Mary (Jim) Wetter; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and caregiver, Clare Smith. He preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Katherine (Goodman) Jilbert; wife, Florence (Elenich) Jilbert; and daughter-in-law, Joann Jilbert).
A private burial will be held February 10, 2025, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, Ohio, where Richard will be laid to rest beside his wife, Florence. St. Adalbert in Berea, Ohio will have a Mass intention on February 16 at 11:30 am.
Richard is in the care of Brainard Funeral Home- Wausau Chapel.
