Richard Sterling Jones Sr.

1952 - 2025

Richard Sterling Jones, Sr. husband of 46 years to Becky Jones, passed away at his home on December 2, 2025, at the age of 73.

He was born in Macon, Georgia to E. Sterling and Betty M. Jones. Rick also lived in Allendale, SC but spent most of his life in Augusta, Georgia. He grew up in National Hills where he attended Garrett Elementary, Langford Middle School, and graduated in the class of 1970 from the Academy of Richmond County. Rick was a licensed Nursing Home Administrator, auditor at MCG, and the Director of Internal Audit at University Hospital from 1983 until his retirement in 2000.

He had a common name, but to his family and close friends he was anything but a common fellow. Those who met him in the last few decades only knew him as a quiet man in a wheelchair; however, Rick loved to play tennis and golf but started to do woodworking, which he enjoyed most of all before he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was extremely proud of his heritage and family roots but most of all he was proud of his three children, Adrienne, Sterling, and Leanna and his grandchildren, Lakelynn, Tripp, Ellie Kate, Barrett, Bennett, Jaxon, and Macie.

Rick is survived by his wife, Becky, his children Adrienne (Marty) Russell, Sterling (Katie) Jones, and Leanna (Jared) Leach, his seven grandchildren, and by his much loved and appreciated sisters, Nancy (Cecil) Mills and Keller Jones, his niece, Middi (Tyler) Sirles and his friend for life, Marshall Thomas.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the Gathering Area at Trinity on the Hill at 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904. There will be a Memorial Service following the visitation in the Sanctuary.
