Richard Kiffmeyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daniel Funeral Homes - Saint Cloud on Feb. 26, 2026.
Richard Kiffmeyer, age 91, of St. Augusta, passed away at The Gardens Memory Care Unit in Foley with his loving family surrounding him on February 24, 2026. Richard was born on August 20, 1934, to Eleanor (Beumer) and Norbert Kiffmeyer in St. Cloud, MN. He grew up on the family farm in St. Augusta.

Richard married Joan Kunkel, of Pearl Lake, on June 18, 1958, and they have three wonderful children. They made their home in St. Augusta, where Richard was active in the St. Mary's Help of Christian Church. Richard was a member of the St. Augusta Lions Club, St. Augusta Blizzard Busters Snowmobile Club, and the Cloudy Town Sam Camping Club. He was also very active in helping with setting up Kiffmeyer Park, which was donated by the Kiffmeyer family.

Richard worked at Arnold's Equipment for many years as a mechanic. He then drove shuttles for Executive Express and then was the street maintenance supervisor for St. Augusta Township. Richard continued to help plow snow until his 80 th birthday. He then volunteered in his daughter, Pam's, kindergarten classroom a few days a week. He touched many young children's lives and was loved by everyone at the school. He was a natural-born teacher.

Richard enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends, along with deer hunting with the Kunkel family. Once Richard and Joan retired, they bought a motorhome and took many trips around the country and camping trips with their family. But most of all, Richard loved his family and people in general and would do anything to help anyone on any project. Several people have told the family that Richard was more of a dad to them than their own fathers. He was a very selfless person who could always find the good in someone and showed them their potential. He never gave up on any person he met and would do anything to help them succeed in life. He would drop everything he was doing whenever someone else needed help.

Richard is survived by his three children, Pam Lahr-Kieke (Kevin) of St. Cloud, Mark (Jennifer) of St. Augusta, and Lori Scheper of Clearwater. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Renee Albers; brothers-in-law, Eugene, Leroy (Beatrice), Robert (Eileen), Larry (Teresa), Mark (Renee), and Duane (Linda) Kunkel; and sisters-in-law, Deb Kunkel and Janet Kunkel. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; brother, Duane; sister-in-law, Diane; and brothers-in-law, Fr. Charles Kunkel, Jim Kunkel, Mike Rosenow, and Rollie Albers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, March 9, 2026, at St. Mary's Help of Christians Church in St. Augusta, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026, and from 9:30-10:30 am on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the church parish center. Burial will be held at the parish cemetery following Mass.

The mass will be live-streamed with a lunch to follow immediately after the committal service. The family would like to send a special thank you to the home caregivers from Visiting Angels for the amazing love and care they gave our dad over the past several years. They loved Dad (and Mom) like family, and for that, we will be forever grateful. We would also like to thank the staff at The Gardens Memory Care Unit in Foley and Moments Hospice for all their help and guidance, and for making Dad's final months as positive as possible. We appreciate everything they did for Dad and for the family.
