Richard Kingsbury, 84, a resident of Petaluma, CA, died peacefully at home of heart complications.
Richard Kingsbury was a loving family man, an Engineer, an avid golfer and lifelong athlete. Richard loved sports and played 4 varsity sports in high school -- football, basketball, track and baseball. In college, he played football, baseball and ran track. After college, he took up golf in earnest and played until very recently. During any health issue, he always had golf as his goal when considering getting better. As a young man in his early years at work, he was such a good softball player, he was considered a "ringer" by the other team.
Richard was born in Meadville, PA in 1941 to Rose and Ernest Kingsbury. The youngest of three children, the family moved around a lot and found their home base in a summer cottage at Lake George, built in 1947. Lake George was Richard's home away from home as a retiree, spending most of his summers there with his wife Winnie. Richard was skilled at math and science, and earned his Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1963. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Ann Myer, soon after.
Richard relocated to California in 1967 when he realized you could play golf there year round. He remained there for the rest of his life. After the sudden death of Ann in 1968, Richard met Winnie and they married in 1970, beginning a long and happy marriage. Richard is survived by his wife Winnie, and his 6 children -- Marion Miller, Laura Rime, Jennifer Pugh, Eva Rendle, John Kingsbury and Paul Kingsbury. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Richard was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and husband. He centered his career and adult life around his family. Nothing gave him more pleasure than being surrounded by his children and their families. A game of golf with family members was a true joy, even when his physical health began to decline.
Richard's professional career involved starting up two electronics businesses, Litronix and Optomicronix. Litronix was one of the earliest high tech companies in what became known as Silicon Valley. An entrepreneur, engineer and a man with solid ideas, he showed himself to be an innovator, earning a patent on the face of the first flat calculator, and an exceptional manager.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Ernest, his first wife, Ann, and by his sister Barbara. He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Kahn.
