Richard Arthur Kranjack (aka Rich, Kran, or Dick) passed away at South Lyon Medical Center on June 24, 2025. He was 80.
Rich was born on March 23rd, 1945, to Arthur (Dutch) Kranjack and Elaine (Sheehan) Kranjack. He spent his early childhood years in Fernley, Nevada, until 1952 when the family moved to Weed Heights. Rich had a paper route most of his early teens, delivering the Reno Gazette Journal around Weed Heights. Upon graduating from Yerington High School, he attended UNR and Riverside California Junior College. He went on to work at First Interstate Bank (Wells Fargo) as a bank teller. When he turned 21, he went to work for Harrah's at Lake Tahoe, and eventually transferred to Las Vegas where he worked as a dealer. He often talked fondly of his times in Las Vegas and enjoyed working a night shift, getting off at dawn and traveling to Brian Head, UT, for a ski day.
In 2004, Rich returned to Yerington to care for his mother. After returning, he reconnected with his high school "crush" Karen Bowman Munson. They spent 20+ years together until Karen's passing in November, 2024. As a youth, Rich played little league and bowling at the Weed Heights Commissary. At YHS, he participated in football, track, and his favorite, basketball. He graduated with the class of 1963. Rich was a devoted Patriots fan and would proudly wear their logo on game days. He was excited about the Raiders Football and the Golden Knights Hockey teams becoming established in Las Vegas and would often discuss sports with his friends and family. On any given day you could call the house and he would "have a game on". Rich also held a high sense of pride of a local mountain in Yerington being named after him. He was the first person to ride a dirt-bike up "Kranjack Mountain", and the mountain is still known by his name to this day.
Rich was proceeded in death by his love, Karen. His parents Dutch and Elaine, and his sister Cindy Menesini. Rich is survived by his step-daughters Pam (Rich) Peters and Kim (Charles) Van Geel, along with his nephew, Randy Menesini, his niece, Diana (Menesini) Allen, and cousins Kathie Mann, Frank Smith, Leslie Sheehan, and Charles Sheehan, along with many lifelong friends.
Rich requested that there be no funeral service arranged after his passing. His family would hope that if you knew him, that you would take a moment to think of a memory you shared with him, and appreciate his "colorful" personality and language. Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net
Arrangements are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV 89447 (775) 463-2911
