RICHARD KRIDER
10/17/1949 - 10/30/2025
Mr. Richard "Dik" John Patrick Krider, 76, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Lawrenceburg/Greendale, Ind., passed away peacefully Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born October 17, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late William Marcus Krider and Georgiana "Georgia" Irene Cole Krider. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, James Cole "Jimmy" Krider, sisters Sara Jane "Janie" Krider DeYoung, and Marijo Gerard Krider.
Dik grew up in Lawrenceburg/Greendale, the 5th of 11 children. His fondest childhood memories included trouble-making with siblings, questioning everything, and riding bikes around his much-loved small, midwestern town - delivering papers for the local press. He was a 1967 graduate of St. Xavier High School and briefly attended Indiana State University. In 1971 he married Rita Potocny in Chicago Heights, Ill. After college, he began a career in theatrical arts in Brooklyn, N.Y., working with the Negro Ensemble Company where he contributed to lighting, set design, and costuming. Later in his stage career, he served on the technical team at DuArt Film Company. While in Brooklyn, he also welcomed his first child, Laura Victoria "Tori" in 1979. He then moved to Chicago, Ill., where he welcomed his second child, Mary Christina in 1983. In Chicago he worked for various computer companies providing information technology services. In 1985 he moved to Merrimack, N.H., to pursue a career with Wang Industries. In 1988 he divorced his first wife, Rita. In 1989 he welcomed his third daughter, Bonnie Jean and in 1991 he welcomed the grand finale daughter, Jaclyn Elizabeth. After a brief stay in Cary, N.C., Dik, Jeanne, Bonnie and Jaclyn moved to Marietta, Ga., in 1998 where he worked as a well-loved school bus driver for Cobb County School District. In 2009, after 20 years of living with his love, Jeanne, they made it "official" in Las Vegas, Nev. Throughout his life he attended 60 annual runnings of the Indianapolis 500 with his family. He enjoyed poker and golfing, was passionate about politics, an avid reader and lover of all the arts. He instilled these traits in his conversations with his beautiful and intelligent daughters - each of whom became passionate educators. He was an incredible chef, and anyone who was lucky enough to sample his signature steak and bearnaise sauce can attest to this gift. His love, laughter and opinions will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
A memorial service was held Monday, November 3, 2025, at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, GA 30263 with Rev. Joan Kinrade and Rev. Andrew Chappell officiating. Visitation preceded the memorial at 1 p.m.
